Biography
Laura Thompson is a singer songwriter and acoustic guitarist from Worcester, who has recently been described as ‘waiting to explode into next generation of great British singer songwriters’.
Born in 1984, Laura first showed an interest in music at the age of eleven when she wrote her first song, but it wasn't until much later that she became serious about making something of her talents. In 2003, she gained a music diploma through Access To Music at Worcester College of Technology and went on put together a string of acoustic demo albums, which received much positive feedback with comparisons drawn to Joni Mitchell and KT Tunstall.
In late 2009, Laura finished recording her first studio album 'Promised Nothing' with producer and musician, Dave Draper. This was released in early March with a headline performance at The Marr's Bar and is currently the best selling CD at Sawmill Discs. It has received a great response from local musos, with BBC Hereford and Worcester’s Andy O’Hare calling it a ‘self-penned little classic’.
Laura gigged extensively through 2009 and 2010, performing at venues such as Katie Fitzgerald's in Stourbridge, The Yardbird in Birmingham, Worcester Arts Workshop and The Globe in Hay-on-Wye. In October 2010, she did a live session for BBC Hereford and Worcester and in January 2011, got through to the final of Acoustic Battle of the Bands at The Railway in Evesham.
After a couple of hectic years of gigging, Laura is now taking a well deserved break from live performance for the foreseeable future. She is currently taking time out to write and is recording a new EP to be released in late 2011.
